My co-founder and I set out to build a language learning app to make it possible to become fluent in a foreign language without moving to a foreign country.

We wanted to solve one of the core problems in language learning: many learners are unable to understand spoken native speakers after taking a course or using an app. You may know what I'm talking about if you've ever taken high school Spanish or used Duolingo.

We figured that the best way to learn to understand native speakers is to actually listen to them speak.

So we built a system to turn real world videos into bite-sized language lessons. LLMSs helped us solve many problems that were previously expensive to solve at scale: clipping videos semantically, validating subtitle accuracy, explaining words & phrases, sentence separation, and contextual definitions.
